In coaching, we work on discovering and dismantling emotional attachments to food. Emotional tools learned in coaching offer women an even more effective way to self soothe – without the guilt that comes from misusing food.

Why work with an emotional eating coach?

Learning the emotional tools I use in emotional eating coaching helps women change their relationship with food, so they can eat less and release weight – weight that won’t come back – because the new emotional tools and mindset now live where emotional eating used to happen. When clients emotionally eat less, weight loss happens and becomes sustainable.

It’s a profound internal shift. We have to consciously learn how to feel.

Are you thinking “Ah! No, I will die if I feel! If I start crying, I will never stop! I’d rather use food than feel my feelings that just sounds downright miserable!”

I know, I was once there too!

This is why I’m so convinced that it’s important to have support to walk alongside you. When you have support it feels safer and we even add FUN in! Many clients say they feel better immediately after we start doing the work together in private or group coaching.

If you have had enough dead ends with diets, if you’re sick of losing and gaining the same weight over and over, if you’re willing to feel and put the effort into using the tools, you will feel better quickly. You can release the emotional weight you been carrying with you for decades.

When we release the emotional weight, we release the physical weight.

We have to consciously practice feeling without spiraling down into shame or despair. That’s what I teach women how to do as a certified emotional eating coach.

I believe a Woman’s weight is a direct reflection of how happy or unhappy she is.

This was the cause for me. In 2004 I was extremely depressed and 50 pounds heavier. That’s when I decided to stop dieting and do what I needed to learn how to feel.

Aren’t you tired of the same diet yo-yo?  Going on another diet won’t heal the emotional eating. If the emotional eating is not addressed it will continue to pop up again over and over. And the weight roller coaster ride will continue. Ugh! Let’s do something different. Let’s do something that actually works. Let’s release the weight and keep it off.

What’s the difference between a weight loss coach and an emotional eating coach?

Most health and weight loss coaching is based on making changes with how much to eat and what to eat (and what not to eat) for the purpose of weight Loss. Weight loss is the focus.

In emotional eating coaching, using emotional tools, discovering and dismantling emotional attachments to food and adding in new healthy habits one at a time is the focus, and the result is weight loss.  Weight loss that is sustainable.

What are the benefits of working with an emotional eating coach vs. trying to go it alone?

Most diets entail removing, restricting, eliminating, tracking, weighing and depriving ourselves of food. It often comes up for us in thoughts or statements like these:

  • You can eat this…. But not this!
  • What’s “legal” to eat on my diet?
  • I’m not “allowed” to have that.
  • Move more, eat less.
  • How many points do I have left today?

For emotional eaters, all of these new rules might make it even harder to lose weight!

When we do these kinds of diets without first releasing the emotions around food we end up using willpower, force and pressure. All things that are temporary.

It’s not about nutrition accountability or giving you another diet. Yes, nutrition matters. And we do work on that together but it is a very different process.

Controlling or restricting food while there is still an emotional attachment to food will eventually lead to a backlash binge. The bigger the restriction, the bigger the backlash binge! So we go a different route.

To heal emotional eating we have to come out of the closet about it. We have to release the shame.  We do that by giving ourselves permission to get support. When we hear it from other women in group coaching oh it’s powerful!! Be free of the shame!

Why did I become a certified emotional eating coach?

I became a certified emotional eating coach (certified eating psychology coach) because my own experience in healing from emotional eating and losing weight revealed there is a huge gap in the support and programs available to women.

All the support I found was food-focused and that always made it worse.  As a previous Program Director and Center Director for a major weight loss corporation for over 5 years, my heart grew weary of seeing so many women coming back regaining their weight.  Each time they came back they restarted at a higher and higher weight.  Each time they came back I could see they felt more shame and more shame, saying: “Why can’t I stay motivated?“  Why is it that I know what to do but I am not doing it?

I had found my solution.  I found food freedom! I released emotional eating and with it – the extra 50 pounds.  My heart longed to coach other women at a deeper level. Doing it mostly on my own took me 10 years, which demonstrates the gap and why so many women need this kind of support instead of just another diet to fail at.

I could see there were so many women suffering in silence. With the support of my amazing husband and family we took a huge leap of faith. I became a certified emotional eating coach and a certified eating psychology coach and opened my own business: The Blissfully Healthy Women’s Wellness Center. After a few years and working with hundreds of clients at Blissfully Healthy I created my own program – Living Blissfully Healthy.

Although my qualification is Certified Eating Psychology Coach, working with me is like working with a Life Coach, Health Coach, Nutritionist and Counselor, because what affects your food effects your whole life, and your life affects your food.

If you’re ready to take a step toward your own journey of healing and a blissfully healthy life, a free one-hour discovery session is my gift to you. Simply request a coaching session using the form on my contact page or use the button to schedule your session today.

Almost everyone emotionally eats at one time or another, so let’s take the shame out of it! Here are some emotional eating statistics shared by the American Psychological Association:

  • 38% of adults say they over-ate or ate unhealthy foods in the past month because of stress (half of these say they do it every week or even more frequently)
  • 33% of adults who over-ate or ate unhealthy foods because of stress said it helped to distract them from stress
  • 27% of adults say they eat to manage stress; one-third of these say it’s a habit

And perhaps not surprising:

  • 57% of overweight adults self-report frequent emotional eating (study)

Emotional eating happens. It might be just grabbing a few extra pieces of candy as you pass by the break room at the office because you’re bored. It might be simply eating larger portions at meals than your body needs to get to that “full” feeling. And yes, it might be eating a whole pizza or eating a whole carton of ice cream in one sitting.

What is an emotional eating coach?

Yep – emotional eating happens. If it’s happening to you, you are not alone.

The intention of Emotional Eating Coaching is to help you identify what’s causing emotional eating, eliminate unnecessary emotional stressors and create better coping mechanisms for those that cannot be eliminated, so that you can be in control of food (and not the other way around). So you can heal from emotional eating and come to a point where you are blissfully healthy, inside and out!

I understand this better than many people because I’ve been there. I went to counseling, OA, FAA, became a vegetarian for 2 years, then a vegan, went to several nutritionists, tried every fad diet you can think of and even desperately searched out eating disorder help for emotional eating.

Nothing worked. I’d even find myself emotional eating MORE after each counseling session or accountability appointment with a nutritionist. Why? Because mere accountability with food choices is not enough. It’s the wrong type of accountability. In fact, this type of accountability can actually trigger emotional eating – it did for me!

I remember one counselor telling me, “Emmie, you need to stop using food and learn how to feel.” I thought, “That sounds miserable! I’m not going to do that. Without emotional eating, without my food, how will I cope? How will I emotionally survive?

Hating my body and the extra 50 pounds I was carrying, I asked her, “How exactly do I feel?”  She couldn’t tell me. The next counselor, and then next nutritionist couldn’t ether.

How I Went from Emotional Eater to Emotional Eating Coach

So I went on a journey to discover how to feel. And I did! I worked with life coaches and read hundreds of books; most importantly, I discovered specific processes of how to feel without spiraling into shame or depression.

Using emotional tools to find immediate emotional release, I found I felt soooooo much better than when I used food, and the cravings to emotionally eat vanished. After decades of misery I found true food freedom, which is how I healed my own emotional eating and released 50 pounds.

How does an emotional eating coach help?

I’ve been coaching clients since 2007. As an emotional eating coach, I specialize in helping women who struggle with emotional eating and their weight. Coaching is focused on learning, practicing and implementing simple and effective daily emotional tools. These emotional tools can then become automatic responses to situations and emotions.

Where emotional eating used to be there are now emotional tools. These tools create a new mindset around food and equip the women I work with to navigate through emotions without needing food to cope. They help to provide immediate relief from difficult emotions, dissolve emotional eating cravings and help women stay inspired to make blissfully healthy choices.

One baby step at a time. Learning how to feel… better.  Learning how to express what you need to say instead of using food to stuff down your emotions. Emotional eating happens out of an attempt to self soothe, but then only creates more guilt and stress.

In coaching, we take a look at why emotional eating is happening so that the inner war with food ends. It’s not about the food. It’s about learning to feel!

Your journey to healing from emotional eating can start today. Let’s set up a free, no-risk discovery session for you here at the Blissfully Healthy Women’s Wellness Center or virtually, online, and talk about whether private Emotional Eating coaching could be right for you.

Today I want to share a golden nugget with you that was a catalyst to my own transformation as well as a key piece of what is now the Blissfully Healthy Program.

One of the most powerful concepts that has helped so many of the clients I coach is:

 There will never be enough food to solve any feeling or emotional issue.

I know you know this. It sounds simple, but this is SO powerful to really get! There will never be enough because food cannot solve emotional issues. We could fill the room you are in now with your favorite foods and eat them all, and still, the problem you are now facing and the feelings you are now feeling would still be there.  When we are emotional; sad, mad, guilty, scared, or even want to celebrate because we are happy, over-indulging in food ALWAYS leads to negative emotions. More negative emotions can lead to a LONGER and MORE MISERABLE time in that emotional situation.

When you are in an uncontrolled eating episode, or thinking that ‘I want to just indulge in that’ (chocolate cake, potato chips or even inactivity) remember that if it’s because there is an emotional situation going on, which is common, using food or inactivity is the LONG route to solving the emotional situation!

Do you want to feel better? Yes, of course!
Telling yourself this truth in the moment will bring you back to finding-a-solution mode.

What do you need to resolve the emotional situation?

This is when knowing you are strong enough to do this will keep you creating solutions. You are being brave and feeling your emotions so that you can heal. Being brave and honoring your needs helps you turn to food less.

If food does not solve the emotional stuff, what will?

Go after that answer! You are worth it! You deserve to be happy. Food and inactivity will not solve any emotional need.

Here is your anchor statement:

“Just for today I chose to be true to myself and honor what I need to be happy. I know that food and inactivity will not solve any emotion. I am worthy. I am enough right now, here, today. I trust that by honoring what I need to heal my emotions, I will get through them faster and with a greater end reward. I know that when I stay true to what I need to get past emotional issues I will feel better. When I feel more balanced I refuel my desire to BE healthy so that I DO healthy things, which then WILL have my transformation!”

Have a Blissfully Healthy Day!

Emotional Eating Coach - What is emotional eating?

Are you ready to stop hating yourself?

Ready to change the relationship you have with your body? Are you ready to be happy and finally achieve the wellness you’ve always wanted?

Hello, my name is Coach Emmie, owner of Blissfully Healthy Women’s Wellness Center,where I specialize in helping women break free from emotional eating and redesign their lifestyle so that they finally love their body and the life they are living.

I have been in your shoes. I overcame body hatred and emotional eating and as a side effect, I released 50 pounds.  I know the pitfalls of trying to control emotional eating and hating every inch of my body. And, especially understand the ins and outs of overcoming emotional eating. Since finding my solution to my emotional and physical wellness, I’ve dedicated my life to helping other women who have these same struggles achieve the same results!

Where do you start in order to have a breakthrough in emotional eating?

In my experience of coaching hundreds of women over the past 10 years, one of the first things that creates a breakthrough is loving you. Stop body shaming yourself. OK, before you click “delete” let me explain a little more.

I know what you are thinking, “How can I love myself the way I am now?  I hate my body! There is no way I would love myself the way I am now, besides if I allow myself to love me now, then I fear I will just be even more out of control with food!”

I understand. I get you. I know this step may be very scary for you. The truth is that YOU CAN’T HATE YOURSELF HAPPY. Hating yourself actually keeps you stuck in unhealthy habits, emotional eating and not having the desire to do the healthy things like making healthier food choices, moving your body, or taking time for you. What you need is a little relief, comfort, and acceptance. So that is where we start in overcoming and breaking through!

How do you begin to love yourself?

I have just the thing to help you bridge the gap from hating yourself to loving yourself. Most women honestly are not able to go from hating to love themselves overnight. So, to break through the self-hate and body shaming thoughts, we start with baby steps.

Your first baby step is acceptance.

If you can’t feel love for yourself, then start with acceptance. Start with accepting who you are now and where you have been. If you don’t feel willing to accept yourself the way you are now, today, start with PARTS of you. Make a list every day of three things you accept about yourself—your features or your character. This will begin re-training your brain to look more towards the positive. Start giving yourself a little relief so that your desire to do the healthy things: think kinder thoughts, eat healthier, move your body more, will start to flow again.   Yes, being kind to you actually inspires motivation!

Once you are grounded in acceptance then move to liking yourself or liking parts of you. Then the liking yourself easily transforms to loving yourself!

You see this journey HAS to be built on unconditional love for yourself, the you, you are now, today, instead of hate or conditional love. What you have been doing has not worked. Hating yourself has not worked. In fact, if you are like many of the women I work with the hating yourself may actually be causing you to be more emotional and then to want to emotional eating more, spend more, or drink more; leading to more thoughts that beat you down .. a body hatred cycle! The hating yourself is keeping you stuck in emotional eating and unhappiness.

Let go of the hate and body shaming. Start accepting the you that you are right now…the you that you are today. Because, you are enough and lovable just the way you are. Stop the self-hate. Start accepting yourself.  Start liking yourself.  Start loving yourself and you will naturally achieve your ideal wellness!

The journey to your personalized wellness solution is an inside job. Your breakthrough has to be based in being kind to yourself and eventually truly loving who you are no matter your size or weight. That unconditional love for yourself helps you stay willing to do the healthy behaviors that lead to your ideal wellness.

Here is an example:

Just for today I accept:

  1.    I have curly blonde hair.
  2.    That I have beautiful blue eyes.
  3.    I have cankles and I accept them! I am grateful for my cankles, because I will never have ankle problems because they are strong!

Give yourself this gift. Take just one baby-step forward. What are your 3 things you accept about yourself? Take a moment to write yours down now.

Have a Blissfully Healthy Day!

With Love and Gratitude Always,  Coach Emmie

P.S.   You’re invited to connect with me.  Together we will discover if coaching is the right fit for you from personalized coaching to a women’s-only community who understands the same issues you do.

Emotional Eating Coach - What is emotional eating?

  • Do you hurt all over and cannot find the reason?
  • Are you tired of being so tired?
  • Have you tried everything to feel better without seeing results?

You might be surprised to learn the root cause could be what you’re eating, even if you eat well. Based on the experience of specialists in Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) these have four possible root causes. In this blog we will talk about the first root cause: Food Sensitivities

Signs that food sensitivities could be the culprit of your health struggles are:

  • Cognitive impairment;
  • Morning stiffness;
  • Insomnia;
  • Tender body points;
  • Sensitivity to light/sound;
  • Body aches;
  • Dry eyes;
  • Nausea;
  • Muscle pain;
  • Chronic headaches;
  • Poor bowel function;
  • Overwhelming fatigue;
  • Feeling cold;
  • Weight gain;
  • Inability to lose weight;
  • Massive and frequent sugar, caffeine and/or alcohol cravings;
  • Feeling blue, down or listless.

Avoiding foods that you are sensitive to may be the answer to help you feel a whole lot better!

The challenge with diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, IBS or migraines is that there is no solid understanding of the ROOT CAUSE of these issues.

  • Fibromyalgia is now the most common disorder seen by Rheumatologists after Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Nearly 25% of patients seen as rheumatology clients are actually suffering from Fibromyalgia.
  • The average person suffering from Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has gone 10 years before being diagnosed, they have seen 12 doctors, tried 15-18 medications and were put through unnecessary testing and operations for symptoms related to these conditions.
  • The Typical FMS patient looks healthy; no one can imagine that they are ill and in a great deal of pain.
  • As a result, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue patients often receive little empathy from family, friend or even health care practitioners.

At the age of 25 years-old, after years and years of personally struggling with migraines, fatigue and an overall lousy feeling my primary care doctor diagnosed me with IBS, migraines and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Yes ALL three! Initially I was so thankful to have a real diagnosis after 11-years of going from doctor to doctor, receiving blood test after blood test and not having any answers as to what was wrong. Countless doctors suggested that I was depressed and so they would say: “Here is an antidepressant.” They were right, after all, I WAS depressed after struggling with awful symptoms without answers for over a decade and I was starting to feel crazy that it was “all in my head” as one doctor told me. Receiving these diagnoses was massively edifying and at the same time they were another roadblock to figuring out how to reclaim my health.

These are diagnoses that have no real cure and specific protocol as to how to get the symptoms in remission. It was so miserable living with chronic grogginess, migraines and muscle aches that made it insurmountable to do simple daily tasks. I was filled with appreciation of having an answer and at the same time felt total despair of what it meant for the prognosis.

I found myself not ready to give up so I asked my doctor if food testing could be what was causing the symptoms. “No, your symptoms have nothing to do with food” is what my doctor said. I decided that I had to be my own health advocate, my gut told me (literally with IBS lol) my symptoms and food were connected. I was right!! My testing came back with an allergy to soy, barley and oats.

I took those foods out and I just could not believe the difference! I had energy! I released weight that had been stuck for years! My migraines were gone! I felt massively better. I noticed that oats and barley were the cause of my ‘IBS’. Avoiding those immediately meant I no longer suffered from IBS. I began to notice soy was the cause of my muscle aches and migraines so by avoiding all forms of soy I no longer struggled with those either! I still had daily fatigue but man was it great to be free of IBS and migraines!  (Want to find out if seemingly innocent foods are the reason for your health challenges too? Find our more about Food Sensitivity Testing.)

A new lease on life!

Then, I must be honest I was also got very angry that my doctor had blatantly told me that food could not be causing my symptoms. Angry that after years and years of suffering, the doctors did not help, they did not know food was the culprit the whole time! This, in part, created my passion for what I do now: Wellness Coaching and Food Sensitivity Testing with my company, Blissfully Healthy Women’s Wellness Center.

I continued to struggle with fatigue and finally in early 2016 after a 3-month relapse of fatigue and massive testing from various doctors; MS specialist, Rheumatologist, Neurologist, as well as working with several Naturopathic doctors all tests came back ‘healthy’ again. No adrenal fatigue, no candida overgrowth, no MS, no Lupus and no Rheumatoid Arthritis. While this was a blessing it still gave no answer to why I felt so tired all the time and since I had done all of the testing, the diagnosis of exclusion was: Fibromyalgia and being re-diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as two separate conditions due to the significance of the daily fatigue.

I had a good cry, then wiped my tears away and decided that I would do what I need to feel better. I remembered how food testing, years ago had helped me feel so much better so I looked into different types of food testing. I discovered a different, highly effective, test that most doctors do not have access to, the FIT test and decided to give it a shot.

Two weeks later my test results came back and I was highly reactive to eggs, bananas, vanilla and a few others. No wonder! I ate a banana several times a day in my green smoothie, vanilla in my coffee in the morning and eggs for breakfast almost every day! No wonder I felt crummy!! I dived in and eliminated the foods. I felt so much more energy, the fatigue, asthma, body aches and joint pain were gone! Now I have so many more days without Fibromyalgia symptoms. All with answers to how to feel better from this amazing test. After my personal experience I knew I had make this available to my clients, I wanted them to feel their best too. During 2016 I was able to test over 53 clients, ALL of them reporting back how much better they feel with the knowledge they’ve gained and the lifestyle adjustments they’ve made. Symptoms have improved or have completely resolved in many cases–even symptoms they didn’t realize were connected to food sensitivities!

The biggest thing I can share with you if you are feeling hopeless is: Don’t stop until you achieve solutions! You deserve to feel your best.

If you’d love to achieve relief from your disruptive symptoms and discover the foods that are contributing to your health challenges, let’s find out if FIT Testing is the right fit for you.

“I don’t want to be fat anymore but I don’t want to do the work to lose the weight. I am just stuck! How do I get motivated again?! I need something to get excited about. Something to motivate me or do it for me.”

Here is the truth, you cannot buy motivation.

There is no magic weight-loss pill that will do it for you. You cannot buy a ‘quick fix’. If you truly have an emotional eating problem that is causing you to hold on to extra weight, then another quick fix will not work, not as a long-term solution, anyways.

I know that this may not be what you want to hear and you may be tempted to stop reading. But I am here to be honest with you and share the truth that I learned in my own personal recovery, as well as helping hundreds of women over the last eight years find freedom.

I am not here to sell you on another ‘quick fix’ system or diet that gives you a false high that it will ‘fix’ you or do it for you. Are you thinking: “If I could just stick with it, it would work though.” I know. I get it. It is natural to want to take a fast path. I am here to tell you the truth.

If you have an emotional eating problem, the emotional eating problem is WHY you are not able to stick with a diet or weight-loss plan. We need to get to a permanent solution, overcoming emotional eating, together.

“Just for today, I’m going to acknowledge that the quick miracle fixes from my past aren’t going to help me. Just for today, I am going to choose to recognize that I deserve the kind of honesty Emmie is offering because a part of me knows I’m worth it and I want a permanent solution.”

This one is the kicker! It is the one that without it, you will get stuck along your weight loss journey. This is the one that makes all the difference. This is the Key that will allow for ALL 5 Keys work so that you CAN stay motivated and get results!

It’s my Birthday! I turn 35 today!

I often get the question do you eat cake on your birthday?

It’s true that cake, birthdays and celebrating any ‘special occasion’ used to send me into an  “I’m going to eat all I want today because it is my birthday! I will just get back on track tomorrow. ”

“Celebrating” used to mean FOOD,  and a lot of it. I would find myself eating my way through the day and ending the day on the couch in a bloated food coma. That is what I used to call celebrating.

This is the mindset that emotional eaters face at special occasions and it is a necessity to shift that mindset into a new meaning about what ‘celebrating’ is.  It doesn’t mean that you are not going to eat some treats, in fact that all or nothing expectation causes deprivation and leads to more of a struggle with food.  Instead, we just want to help you not go to excess with celebration treats and end up feel crappy, on the very day that you want to enjoy most!
How do you face temptations and the celebration mindset without going off the deep end in a binge or over indulging in leftover cake for days?

If the food is not the focus of the event than what is?

IF not overindulging in food on special occasions then how do you celebrate?

I used to feel, “Celebrating just doesn’t seem the same without food being the main event.”  But I promise you, now free from emotional eating, celebrating is SO much BETTER! You will experience the celebration at a whole in level with so much more joy!

This is a common subject that has been coming up in many of my clients’ private coaching sessions this week, especially with The Washington State Fair going on right now.
Here is a first step into creating your Celebration Plan:  Ask yourself;  Other than the food what do I enjoy most about the celebration event?  Is there something that is moreenjoyable than the food at your celebration event?
 The word ‘more’ is the stumbling block for many. Many of my clients answer,“What’s more enjoyable than food?!”  If you are like many women I work with, this question sparks up a foreign way of thinking and takes a bit of coaching to help them get their answer.
If you would like support in discovering how to enjoy celebrations without eating your way through the day I have A gift for you.  (Just because it’s my birthday doesn’t mean I’m the only one who can get presents!)
In my NEW 8 Week Women’s Holiday Weight Loss Group Coaching Program that is starting soon we will be spending 3 entire group coaching sessions on this very topic!
Here’s a sneak peek…You will have your personalized Master Plan of how to navigate the upcoming holidays without dieting deprivation, emotional eating or avoiding events because you can’t trust yourself around your favorite holiday treats.  You will have everything you need including many new healthy recipe ideas so that you can enjoy the holidays, enjoy some treats and still reach your weight loss goals this holiday season!)

Space is limited and filling up fast so contact me today to see how this group coaching program will help you have the most enjoyable holiday season yet!

“But Wait!  Emmie, you didn’t answer if you will eat cake on your birthday?” Ha! Good catch!  Stay tuned! I will be sharing the next step to enjoying celebrations without binge eating in my next email!

I know that you want to lose weight. I know that you want to end emotional eating. And I know that the drive to use food is strong and many times just seems to overpower your weight-loss intentions.

Sometimes just thinking about the food not being there as you contemplate a weight-loss plan can trigger you into a panic… “I want to lose weight, but I don’t want to give up comfort foods!”

Then all of a sudden you may have a strong overtaking or hankering for your favorite binge foods. If just the thought of not having food to cope sends you into a downward spiral, I want you to know that you are not alone. YES you too, CAN have the transformation you want!

Let’s look at some questions to understand why you are holding onto comfort foods:

  • Are you overly stressed and not taking time for you?
  • Are you over-committing and saying yes to things you really want to say no to?
  • Do you find yourself feeling deprived?
  • What are you starving for in your life?

If these questions hit a chord in you, you are at the right place to discovering the problem.

You are you operating from an empty bucket.

Imagine your life is a bucket. When the bucket is full, your life is full of friendship, health, connection, happiness and life balance. When your bucket is empty, your life is stressful, chaotic and unfulfilling. When operating from an empty bucket emotional eating is a way you may use to try to fill up that bucket of emotional needs. But it just leaves you feeling empty and shameful about the seemingly uncontrollable behavior, so much so that you may even hide your emotional eating from others.

Does this sound familiar to you?

Feelings come up you don’t want to address, so you stuff them down with your comfort foods and the feeling is numbed out. But only temporarily. The feelings come back up and again you stuff them down, once again you feel tranquilized or numbed out for a short time. This happens over and over again while your weight goes up and up. You may know that the truth is there is not enough food in the world to fill the void that you are feeling… the way out of these feelings you are trying to avoid is through. Feeling is healing.

Start by NOT setting an expectation of yourself to deal with all the emotions that come up right now if you are not ready. You don’t have to do it ALL right now, just some. The great news is there is a way for you to overeat less, AND yes, release weight through the process of feeling to heal!

In order to use less food we start with increasing the strength of your ability to cope without food by building up your own self-care.

Permission to BINGE!

Going on a diet requires that you first take away. Take away all the bad foods, take away the comfort that you get from emotional eating, take away the pleasure of disassociating from the emotions you don’ t want to feel.

The problem with this is that you are already operating from an empty bucket! Going on a diet for an emotional eater is like punching a hole in your life-fulfillment bucket. Now you not only have an empty bucket, you have an empty bucket with a hole that no matter how much you fill it, (emotional eating) it will always remain empty… until you fix the hole.

When you go on a weight-loss plan without ADDING in enjoyment first, you are punching holes in your bucket and the drive to use food will return with a vengeance! This is called the “Diet Binge Backlash” that you may be very familiar with.

This is why in my coaching I stress the importance of ADDING in first, not taking away. We need to mend the hole by adding in more joy, fun and excitement in your life so that you can let go of the need to use food. And the great thing is that IT WORKS!

So, today I invite you to ADD in Self-Care.

100 Acts of Self-Care in 20 days!

What are you thinking…?

  • “What!?! No, I will do nice things for myself when I lose some weight.”
  • “If I take time for me it will take away from others and they will get upset.”
  • “I don’t deserve to get my nails done until I lose some weight.”
  • “Holy cow that is another thing to do with everything I already have going on in my life. I can’t do that.”
  • “Being critical of myself is the only thing that is keeping me from NOT going even more hog wild!”

You are not alone, so many of my clients share the same concerns. ADDING in self-care may scare you. It may feel awkward or you may feel undeserving until you ‘ do better’ or lose some weight. I understand your fear and hesitation in this. It’s ok to take care of you now. You are wonderful just as you are! At the same time you are not going to stay here, stuck in emotional eating. You deserve a better life!

Letting go of self-hatred will not lead you into an unstoppable binge, it will actually provide you the relief that you need to start letting go of the drive to emotionally eat to meet your needs that you are starving for.

Denying yourself the kindness of self-care is withholding love and acceptance for yourself, which creates that empty bucket, the hole in the empty bucket and leads to emotional eating. Letting go of self-hatred will not lead you into an unstoppable binge, instead it will actually provide you the relief that you need to start letting go of the drive to emotionally eat because your needs are fulfilled.

You are worthy to do something as simple as putting on lipstick because it makes you feel pretty today. Just as you are today, you are worthy of self-acceptance and love.

Put yourself back on the priority list!

Indulge yourself in your own unconditional love. Let go of the expectation to feel it all right now and trust that by being full of self-acceptance and self-love that your bucket will be mended so that you can start filling it up! Doing soul nurturing activities starts the path to being able to use less food and release the weight for good.

Are you ready to finally lose weight? Change the relationship you have with your body image? Achieve the health you’ve always wanted?

Hello, my name is Coach Emmie, owner of Blissfully Healthy Women’s Wellness Center, where I specialize in helping women break free from emotional eating so that they finally lose weight that has plagued them for so long.

I have been in your shoes. I overcame emotional eating and becasue of that I released over 50 pounds.  I know the pitfalls of trying to lose weight and being unsuccessful. And, especially understand the ins and outs of overcoming emotional eating. Since releasing the weight, I’ve dedicated my life to helping other women who struggle with their weight to achieve the same results!

Where do you start in order to have a breakthrough in wellness and emotional eating so you can lose weight?

In my experience of coaching hundreds of women over the past 8 years, one of the first things that creates a breakthrough is loving yourself. OK, before you click “delete” let me explain a little more.

I know what you are thinking, “How can I love myself the way I am now? I am so overweight and I hate my body! There is no way I would love myself the way I am now, besides if I allow myself to love me now then I fear I will just be even more out of control!”

I understand. I get you. I know this step maybe very scary for you. The truth is that YOU CAN’T HATE YOURSELF THIN. Hating yourself actually keeps you stuck in unhealthy habits, emotional eating and not having the desire to do the healthy things like: making healthier food choices and moving your body. What you need is a little relief, comfort and acceptance. So that is where we start in overcoming and breaking through emotional eating!

How do you begin to love yourself even before you lose weight?

I have just the thing to help you bridge the gap from hating yourself to loving yourself. Most women honestly are not able to go from hating to loving themselves overnight, even when they do lose weight. So, in order to breakthrough the self-hate and body shaming thoughts, we start with baby steps. Your first baby step is acceptance.

If you can’t feel love for yourself start with acceptance. Start with accepting who you are now and where you have been. If you don’t feel willing to accept yourself the way you are now, today, start with PARTS of you. Make a list every day of three things you accept about yourself—your features or your character. This will start re-training your brain to look more towards the positive. Start giving yourself a little relief so that your desire to do the healthy things: eat better, move more will start to flow again.

Once you are grounded in acceptance then move to liking yourself or liking parts of you. Then the liking yourself easily transforms to loving yourself!

You see this journey HAS to be built of unconditional love for yourself, the you you are now, today, instead of hate or conditional love. What you have been doing has not worked. Hating yourself has not worked, in fact if you are like many of the women I work with in private coaching the hating yourself may actually be causing you to be more emotional and then to want to emotional eating more and thus causing you to gain weight! The hating yourself is keeping you stuck in emotional eating and causing weight gain.

Let go of the hate and body shaming. Start accepting the you that you are right now…the you that you are today. Because, you are enough and lovable just the way you are. Stop the self-hate. Start accepting yourself. Let go of the emotional eating. Let go of the extra weight.

The journey to your personalized weight solution is an inside job. Your breakthrough has to be based in being kind to yourself and eventually truly loving who you are no matter your size or weight. That unconditional love for your self helps you stay willing to do the healthy behaviors that lead to your goal health and weight.
